The Importance of Living Your Life Purpose

Everyone is born with a purpose – a reason why they are here and what they are meant to do.

Your purpose is unique to you – no one else has it.

Purpose shows up throughout life in the form of the quiet whispers in the midst of the loud inner chatter of one’s mind.

Purpose is hinted at in the gut feeling that there is something more.

Purpose is present in the absolute certainty that the heart tries to share.

Sadly, most are not taught how to listen for the quiet whispers, to trust your gut, or believe in the certainty of the heart.

Instead, we are taught more “Important things” (yes that is sarcasm) like what is the F**king symbolism of the green light in the Great Gatsby (obviously still a sore point for me).

We are told to go to school and to do good in school so you can get a good job. Then get married. Then have kids. Then coach little league.

The majority of our first 18 – 22 years are spent in education.

In addition to symbolic Green Lights, we are taught about A squared + B squared = C squared, how to read the periodic table, and what the capital of X, Y, Z State/Country is.

All important skills/pieces of information that I am sure the majority of us depend on every single day to make the quality of our lives better (that might be a little sarcasm too).

The point of this post is to not harp on what we learn in school.

The point of this post is to draw attention to what we don’t learn in school.

Purpose. What it is. How to find it/decide on it. What to do with it. Why it is so important to discover.

Take this email I received from one of my clients. This is someone who followed the path he thought he was always supposed to follow.

He did well in school. He got a good job. He got married. He had kids. He coached little league.

On paper, he did everything he was taught to do.

But, there was something missing…

He would wake up everyday feeling like he was supposed to be happy but wasn’t.

There was something missing and he could no longer pretend like that wasn’t the case.

When one is living on purpose – life transforms.

“Jesse,

This last year has been eye-opening and incredible. When we first began to work together I had no idea what to expect. To be honest I didn’t even really know what a Life Coach was. If it had not been for my wife’s insistence, I would have never reached out to you in the first place.

I feel like a fog has been lifted and the “weight” I have been carrying around for most of my life is gone – I feel lighter, more energized, and clear.

My wife tells me she feels like we are dating again – our relationship is that great right now! My kids and I have formed a bond I never thought possible, but deep down had always dreamed of.

When we first started talking about life purpose I thought my purpose as a man was to be a good husband/father/provider. What I have learned is that is only a piece of it.

Having a clear understanding of who I am and what my purpose is has been eye-opening. I know who I am. What light’s my fire. What is most important to me. Why I am here. What I need to do every day to realize that why. I know what fulfillment is for me and live each day committed to experiencing it.

To say my life is great would be an understatement. Whatever is beyond great; I feel like my life is beyond even that.”

In my experience, purpose is often the missing piece to the puzzle of life for many people.

Purpose isn’t something you were taught in school, but it is something you can learn/discover.

If this post resonated with you and you are in a space where you are asking questions like: “Why am I here?” “Is there something more?” “I know I am meant for more, but what is it?” “I feel like something is missing, but can’t figure out what it is?” You and I should talk.

Purpose is knocking at your door. It’s time for you to answer.

Carpe Diem,

Jesse
